This is the laptop model of my college that asked me for help for install Ubuntu because he had some problems during installation.
Check if you have the same problem, the installation are frozen without error messages
Download alternate version was the only way that i found for install Ubuntu on it laptop.
Like you can read on the Ubuntu download website: "Check here if you need the alternate desktop CD. This CD does not include the Live CD, instead it uses a text-based installer."
Click on the checkbox for active the download of alternate version, and then click on the download button above it.
This new installation way using text-based interfaces is a bit more ugly but it will let you install Ubuntu without any error
Is important emphazise that after installation all the hardware work perfectly. There aren't devices not working.
The result, a funny guy working with his new operating system

Hmmm, I was using the Live-CD to install Ubuntu 7.10, Gutsy Gibbon and had no problems.
Now my problems (did you friend encounter them too??):
* When using the laptop only with the battery the screen is not darkened.
* When I plug in ear-phones the speaker won't turn off and will even not be turned off when turning it off over the mixer.
His ear-phones work perfectly. But about the brightness control he uses "smartdimmer" for adjust it.
